MaterialsHow to choose a headboard fabric: velvet, linen, bouclé and leather
Durability in a headboard fabric is measured by the Martindale rub test; 20,000 cycles is the lower limit for home furniture. Velvet marks because of its pile, linen breathes and creases, bouclé looks warm and can pill, and leather wipes clean but does not breathe.
MaterialsHow to choose a furniture finish: walnut, oak and lacquer compared
Walnut is dark and strongly grained, oak is light and quiet, and lacquer is a flat surface with no grain at all. Walnut and oak are natural wood veneers where a scratch can be repaired; lacquer is a painted surface, and its repair covers a whole panel rather than a spot.
PlanningHow do you decide on wardrobe width?
Wardrobe width starts from the metres of hanging space you need, not from the width of the wall. Allow 100–120 cm of rail for one person and 200–240 cm for two; what is left goes to shelves and drawers.
PlanningHow to measure a bedroom
Three numbers decide a bedroom measurement: wall width, ceiling height and the walkway in front of the wardrobe wall. Leave at least 60 cm on each side of the bed and at least 90 cm in front of the wardrobe.
Buying guideWhat is the difference between made-to-measure furniture and a ready-made set?
A ready-made set is built to standard dimensions and “fitted into” the room; a made-to-measure set is drawn around the room’s dimensions. The difference shows up most in wardrobe width, walkway clearances and the direction the doors open.
Ordering processHow long does a made-to-measure bedroom set take to deliver?
The average delivery time for a made-to-measure bedroom set is 4–6 weeks. For lacquered and gilded classical sets it rises to 8–10 weeks. The clock starts when the measurements are taken, not when the order is confirmed.
